The plot of the film The Amateur revolves around a grieving CIA cryptographer. The cryptographer, Charles Heller, is played by Rami Malek, and is determined to hunt down the man who killed his wife in a terror attack in London. He plans to take revenge with his status as a member of the CIA.
However, this revenge was not approved by Heller's seniors. Feeling disrespected, Heller then blackmailed the agency to obtain weapons and equipment for field operations. Heller uses his intelligence abilities as the main weapon in this personal mission.
